Sigmoidoscopy
A medical procedure in which a doctor examines the inside of the rectum and the first third of the colon (to the first large bend in the colon) for polyps, cancer, obstructions, or any other abnormality. To perform a sigmoidoscopy, the doctor uses a sigmoidoscope inserted into the colon through the anus and rectum.
