GLOSSARY
Colostomy
A surgical procedure that allows stool to leave the body through a permanent, surgically-created opening. Stool normally exits the body after passing through the colon, rectum, and anus. A colostomy is sometimes required in people who have had their colon, rectum, or anus removed.
