MAIN GLOSSARY

BRCA1
BRCA1 (BReast CAncer 1) is a gene that, when mutated, significantly increases a person's risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Mutations in BRCA1 can also increase a person’s risk of developing prostate, and possibly colon cancer. In addition to having a higher risk of developing breast cancer, women with mutations in BRCA1 tend to develop the disease at a much earlier age than women in the general population.
