While standard mammography remains the primary breast cancer screening method regardless of a woman's risk status, many medical centers now use newer technologies to supplement mammography for screening women at high risk of breast cancer. Women at high risk include those with a genetic predisposition to breast cancer based on a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation or a confirmed family medical history, as well as women with dense breast tissue.
